By the 21st
January work on 80136 was well advanced.
One of the tasks to
be undertaken was the replacement of the left hand leading spring
on the pony truck. When the old spring was removed it was found
to be fractured in three places.
Designed to be replaced
with the pony truck removed, replacing the spring in situ proved
to be a less than easy task. This shot shows the spring carrier
dropped down with the main spring removed to reveal the inner
spring and retention pin.
The right hand
spring as a complete unit.
One of the more major
tasks being undertaken was the replacement of the small boiler
tubes. This was the situation on 21st January 2006.
By the 28th January
all the tubes were in place and work had commenced on repairs
to the firebox.
The paintwork was
also receiving attention with the boiler cladding requiring most
work.
Meanwhile the
rest of the paint work was receiving a good "seeing to".
Credit goes to The West Somerset staff who really do look after
their charges.
Alongside 80136 was
48305 receiving an overhaul before heading off the The Great
Central Railway.
Out at the rear of
the works was the Trust's other locomotive, Hunslet "J94"
number 68030. This machine is also to undergo a Winter overhaul
before returning to The Churnet Valley Railway for the 2006 season.
