80136's Uplifting Experience
Part 2 - 22nd January 2003

One by one the driving sets were lifted by the mobile crane and deposited at the side of 80136 to await transport for retyring.

This shot gives some idea of the size of the sets.

Just to roll the sets along the track took four men.

Now suspended without any undercarriage 80136 invokes memories of Crewe Works in the good old days when locomotives could regularly be seen swinging above head height. It is interesting to note the depot insignia on the rail crane - the same place that 80136 was built.

Levitation? (click the picture for the genuine shot).

 A sight rarely seen.

I understand that the cylinders are to receive a rebore and new piston heads fitted. Does this mean more power? - it did with my Triumph Bonneville when that was rebored! The streaks visible on some of these photographs are rain spots trailing across the field of view, the rain and sleet were of the best possible kind and bear in mind that this particular day was chosen because the weather forecast was good!

Is there poetry in motion?

The temporary front bogie which will allow transfer to the workshops.

Operation completed. The hydraulic ram on the crane was partially obliterated by a raindrop on the lens.
