68030 GALLERY 16th September 2002

68030 has returned to Crewe for remedial works at the London & North Western Railway Company workshops. As ever my grateful thanks go to Stephen Latham and Philip Oldfield for their assistance in allowing these photographs to record the event. These workshops are industrial premises and are not open to the public, please do not trespass.

Arrival at Crewe and 68030 is reversed down the yard and past the preserved APT unit.

The trailer was positioned over the transit line.

Poles apart!

The trailer has been lowered and match rails are being positioned.

It was a case of one in and one out. 47501 was being collected for a road journey to Glasgow where it was to be stripped of parts before scrapping. The locomotive has been purchased by DRS as a source of spares for other class 47's they are returning to active service. the 47 was pushed up the ramp by the depot shunter where the J94 was attached and slowly brought down the ramp. A second trailer was later attached and the 47 was winched over the first trailer to be positioned on the second, larger, unit. See more on RAIL37 later.

Both engines were dragged into the yard......

.....and 68030 was parked, under the watchful eye of Stephen Latham.

The J94's boiler and tanks were drained before work commenced.
